Carnival Cruise Ship to Spend 10 Days at Sea After Skipping Alaska Ports

Imagine setting sail on a 30-night cruise from Seattle to Brisbane, excited to explore Alaska’s breathtaking ports and scenic cruising. But just as you’re getting ready to board the Carnival Luminosa, you receive notification of an unexpected itinerary change. Due to a low-pressure system in the Alaska region, the ship will now spend the first 10 days at sea, skipping all ports in Alaska. While disappointing, the decision was made with your safety in mind. However, Carnival Cruise Line is making it up to you by adding two new ports in Japan and offering a $200 onboard credit. So, even though you won’t experience Alaska’s beauty, your cruise will still be filled with unforgettable moments and exciting adventures.

Carnival Cruise Ship to Spend 10 Days at Sea After Skipping Alaska Ports

Welcome aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Luminosa! We have some exciting news to share about an itinerary change for our epic 30-night repositioning cruise from Seattle to Brisbane. As you may have already heard, we will be spending the first 10 days of the cruise at sea, with no port visits during that time. But don’t worry, we have some amazing plans in place to make your time onboard memorable.

Carnival Luminosa’s Itinerary Change

The initial itinerary included ports and visits in Alaska, such as Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point, along with scenic cruising for Hubbard Glacier. However, after carefully monitoring a low-pressure system in the greater Alaska region that was forecasted to create unusually high swells and strong winds, we decided to cancel these stops in the best interest of everyone’s safety. The decision was made in partnership with our Fleet Operations Center, and we want to assure you that your safety is our top priority.

Safety Concerns and Decision-Making

Partnering with our Fleet Operations Center allows us to monitor weather conditions and make informed decisions to ensure the safety of our guests and crew. In this case, the low-pressure system posed potential risks, including high swells and strong winds. Considering these safety concerns, we made the difficult decision to skip the Alaska ports and focus on providing a safe and enjoyable cruise experience for everyone.

Impact on the Rest of the Itinerary

Rest assured that the change in itinerary does not impact the remaining part of your cruise. We will continue as planned, visiting Japan, the Philippines, and Indonesia. These destinations offer unique experiences and opportunities for exploration and enjoyment. We are confident that you will have a fantastic time exploring these beautiful countries and immersing yourself in their culture.

Compensation for Affected Guests

We understand that the cancellation of the Alaska ports may be disappointing for some of our guests. To make up for this change, we will be providing compensation for the cancelled ports. We will soon release more information about the compensation package, including details about the onboard credit to your Sail & Sign account. Rest assured, we want to ensure that you have something extra to enjoy during your cruise.

Previous Itinerary Changes

This is not the first time we have had to make changes to an itinerary due to weather conditions. In February 2023, Carnival Horizon had to cancel its call at Cozumel, Mexico, due to high winds. While these changes can be disappointing, it’s important to remember that they are made with your safety in mind.

Winter Season Plans

Once we complete this incredible 30-night repositioning cruise, Carnival Luminosa will spend the winter of 2023-2024 in Australia. We are excited to arrive in Brisbane on October 15, 2023, and offer an array of sailings in Australia. Explore the stunning coasts, experience vibrant cities, and create unforgettable memories in the land down under. Finally, on May 1, 2024, we will reposition the ship to Seattle, completing this chapter of our journey.
